Home Alone
Home Alone? Try Bargain Shopping!
I am not currently watching holiday movies such as Home Alone. I am almost certain though you might have heard of the popular phrase, Christmas in July. Here in the United States retailers have taken advantage of an opportunity for marketing. There are no national holidays between Independence Day and Labor Day. It’s a little early for back to school shopping (August) and Summer product sales are ending (June.) Many businesses will offer discounts to entice shoppers to buy. I think it’s a good idea. If I can save a dollar, more power to them.

Those are some really cool stairs!
Since, I had the holidays on my mind, I thought I might just mention the movie Home Alone, starring Macaulay Culkin. It’s the story about a boy getting left at home while his family flies to France for Christmas. In my opinion its a fairly descent, funny, holiday film. I used to especially enjoy a particular scene in the film. The one where the boy slides down the staircase on his sled.
My 3-year-old son has never seen this film. I have made sure he has not watched it since my son is a daredevil. He has been known to jump off couches, “parachute” off beds and even try to climb on the dining room table to play king of the mountain. Needless to say he is never happy when I say, “No.”
My wife went upstairs to wake up Macaulay Culkin Junior and I just happened to have the camera ready for pictures (I have to add like all good reporters I never know what I might find) He came down the stairs in a dream like quality. He reminded of the movie Home Alone.
Dream Killing Can Be Okay!
Me: You are having a good hair day! (laughing a little as I take the picture)
Xan AKA Macaulay Culkin: No! You go! No pictures! (tries to hide face with hand)
Me: Alright no pictures. (I turn around and leave for a minute)
Xan: (lots of giggling from top of stairs)
I can’t get the scene of Macaulay Culkin flying down the stairs on a sled in Home Alone out of my mind!I immediately head back to stairs. Giggling is never a good thing.
Me: What do you think you’re doing? You are not riding that down the stairs! (looking at Xan at top of stairs holding his ride on car)
Xan: UnUH….It fun! (smiling and nodding his head yes)
Me: Xander Ian….You need to put that down and don’t even think about it!!! (Melissa walks up from behind him and takes the toy)
Xan: NO!!! I ride it down!!! (stomps feet once)
Me: No, you aren’t! You are not going to do a scene from Home Alone!!(I hate to kill a dream but sometimes you have to)
Xan: IT FUN!! PLEASE!!! (giving me puppy dog eyes)
Me: No, it’s not going to happen! Son…you could get seriously hurt doing that! (not to even mention the coronary he is trying to give me)
Xan: Noooo….I good! (smiles and stomps foot)
Me: The answer is still no! It’s not happening! (maybe being a dream killer is okay?)
Xan: Ahhhhh…..dada…… (said with much sorrow)
Me: NO! (dream killers can’t all be bad)
Xan: Dada no fun! (actually gives me a dirty look…I think he might have learned it from me….yikes)
Me: Good…I am glad I am no fun. (yes, in this case I like being a dream killer!)
I can now say that particular movie, Home Alone, has become banned in my home until further notice. I used to appreciate the sled scene from the movie. As a true dream killer, I no longer like that part of the movie.
Points Allocated

Sometimes you gotta do a little dream-killing to avoid the heart attack. I do the same thing. Can’t help it. We would just be distraught if something happened to our little ones.
